THE ISRAELI OPERA CHORUS Directed by Itay Berckovitch The Israeli Opera Chorus performs regularly in the Israeli Opera productions, singing versatile operatic repertoire ranging from the Baroque (Handel) through the Classical operas (Mozart, Verdi and Puccini) tomodern operas (Janáček, Shostakovich and Britten) as well as Israeli operas in world premieres (Alpha & Omega by Gil Shohat, Josef by Josef Tal, A Journey to the End of the Millennium by Josef Bardanashvili). The chorus has also performed abroad in the Israeli Opera tours to Berlin (L'elisir d'amore), The Savonlinna Opera Festival in Finland (L'elisir d'amore), Wiesbaden (La traviata, Tosca), Rome (A Journey to the End of theMillennium) andmore. It also performs with vocal operatic repertoire with most of the orchestras in Israel, including the Israel Philharmonic, The Israel Symphony Orchestra Rishon LeZion, Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, Haifa Symphony Orchestra and Raanana Symphonette. The chorus also performed in a cappella concerts throughout the country. The Israeli Opera Chorus performed under conductors such as Valery Gergiev, Dan Ettinger, Daniel Oren, Gary Bertini, Maurizio Benini, Zubin Mehta, Kurt Masur, Frédéric Chaslin, Alberto Zedda, Gabriele Ferro, David Stern, Asher Fisch, Julius Rudel and many more. Itay Berckovitch, Orchestral and Choral Conductor, was born in Israel. He graduated in conducting from Buchmann-Mehta School of Music and computer science from Tel Aviv University. He won the Gary Bertini Award, as well as a scholarship for young conductors under the aegis of the Israeli Ministry of Culture and Sports and outstanding-student scholarships from the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music. Currently, Itay is the conductor of the Israeli Opera Choir and assistant conductor of productionswith the Israeli Opera. In 2024, Itay conducted the Israeli Opera production of “L’elisir d’amore” (Donizetti). In addition, he is assistant conductor with the Tel-Aviv Collegium Singers. He was the music director and conductor of The Madrigal Singers, Tiv'on Israeli Chamber Choir and Vocalisa Women's Choir. He was a co-founder of Common Ground Voices international choir and was one of its leaders. He was a staff member at the international opera course IMVAJ. Itay has conducted and cooperated with most of the major orchestras in Israel, including The Israel Philharmonic, The Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, The Israel Symphony Orchestra Rishon LeZion, The Israel Chamber Orchestra, The Haifa Symphony Orchestra, The Israel Sinfonietta Beer Sheva and Barrocada.
