The Young Israel Philharmonic Summer Concerts

5

The Jerusalem Music Centre’s Young Israel Philharmonic is returning to the stage for moving and exciting Summer gala concerts. During the summer  vacation, the Young Israel Philharmonic will get together for two intensive weeks of rehearsals with the best teachers and musicians from Israel and abroad, led by conductor Paul Goodwin

The Young Israel Philharmonic Orchestra is Israel’s foremost  youth symphony orchestra. The orchestra is managed by the Jerusalem Music Centre since 2006 at the encouragement of its founder, the late Mr. Bruno Landsberg. The YIPO consists of Israel’s 110 finest young musicians, aged 14-18, who are selected and invited from all over the country.

The YIPO serves vital music-educational objectives: it allows outstanding talents to discover the magic and power of creating a whole much bigger than the sum of its parts; it provides its participants with a rare opportunity to study the finest symphonic repertoire, to acquire skills essential for their future careers, and to perform in Israel’s central concert halls; it endows them with motivation and enthusiasm, while serving as a source of inspiration for all young musicians and youth orchestras in the country.

The orchestra’s members participate in the wide array of the Jerusalem Music Centre’s programs for the promotion of outstanding young musicians, including: international masterclasses, chamber ensembles of the Goldman Program, unique courses with international artists, and perform in many concerts for the community and the general public.

Twice a year, during the winter and summer holidays, the orchestra’s members come together for music camps at the end of which the orchestra performs in concerts in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. The concerts of the YIPO draw audiences of thousands of enthusiastic listeners each year, many of whom are young music students from conservatories around the country.

The orchestra’s concerts are recorded and broadcasted by the KAN Kol HaMusica radio station and the Jerusalem Music Centre’s YouTube Channel.

The orchestra works under the highest international standards, led by internationally renowned conductors and top rank Israeli musicians who coach the different instrument groups of the orchestra. The joint musical experiences shape the development of the young musicians for years to come. Most of the orchestra’s graduates go on to take part in the leading orchestras and ensembles in Israel and abroad and lead the classical music world as performers and teachers.

Conductors in past years have included Lahav Shani (Israel/ Germany), Hans-Peter Ochsenhofer (Austria), Catherine Larsen-Maguire (Germany/ England), Benjamin Zander (USA), Krzysztof Chorzelski (England), Yi-An Xu (China/ Israel), Evgeny Bushkov (Israel/Russia)  and others.

The orchestra’s activities take place with the collaboration and support of the Ministry of Education, the Supervision of Musical Education in Israel, and the Department of Gifted and Outstanding Children.

The orchestra’s work is made possible by the generous support of Yad Hanadiv, the Jerusalem Foundation, Sano Enterprises, the Goldman Family, the Azrieli Foundation, the Lazoff Foundation, the Hanan Susz Foundation, Harel Insurance Investments and Financial Services, Maj. Gen. (res.) Nehemia Dagan, and many supporters and friends from Israel and abroad.
