The Gary Bertini Israeli Choir was founded in 2009 by Haggi Goren together with Ronen Borshevsky and a group of musicians and public figures. Since its inception, the Choir has performed with the Israel Philharmonic under the baton of renowned conductors, among them: Zubin Mehta, Lahav Shani, Kurt Masur, Herbert Blomstedt, Asher Fisch, Vladimir Jurowski, Kent Nagano, Krzysztof Penderecki, Yoel Levi, Dan Ettinger, Manfred Honeck, and with the Haifa Symphony Orchestra and Jerusalem Symphony orchestra. The repertoire with the Israel Philharmonic has featured Brahms’ German Requiem, Mozart’s Requiem, Mahler’s Second and Third Symphonies, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Schoenberg’s Gurre-Lieder, Rossini’s Stabat Mater, Pendercki’s Polish Requiem, Orff’s Carmina Burana, Britten’s War Requiem, Holst Planets, Rachmaninoff Bells, well as many operas by Verdi, Rossini, Puccini, Tchaikovsky, Bizet and Strauss. Bertini Choir, which is the representative group of the Choir, consists of 28 singers. Conducted by Ronen Borshevsky, Bertini Choir dedicates itself to a wide a-cappella repertoire and collaborates with chamber orchestras. So far this choir has performed with the Israel Chamber Orchestra, the Prague Chamber Orchestra, Nova Amadeus Orchestra of Rome, Interpreti Veneziani, the Barrocade Ensemble, Israel Camerata, and has toured successfully in Italy (2012), Prague and Vienna (2014), Burgundy (2017), Venice, Mantua and Nurnberg (2022). Since 2018 the choir has held “The Little Choral Series” of vocal concerts at the Tel Aviv Museum, Elma auditorium and other venues.
Ronen Borshevsky, Music Director and Conductor of the Gary Bertini Israeli Choir, head of the choral conducting department and senior lecturer at the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music at Tel Aviv University, and conductor of the Israel Kibbutz Choir. He won prizes in international conducting competitions in Tokyo and Denmark (1998). As a Winner of the Koussevitzky Scholarship, he was invited to participate in the conductors’ course at Tanglewood, where he studied with Bernard Haitink and Seiji Ozawa. Among his teachers: Noam Sheriff, Mendi Rodan, and Hans Graf (in Vienna). Ronen Borshevsky has conducted the leading Israeli orchestras, including the Israel Philharmonic, and many orchestras worldwide. In 2006, he led the German-Israeli Philharmonia project, conducting Mendelssohn’s Elijah in Germany.
