Shay Bloch, mezzo soprano, was born in Israel. She performed numerous roles with the Israeli Opera, including: Azucena in Il Trovatore (Verdi), Suzuki in Madama Butterfly (Puccini), Fenena in Nabucco (Verdi), Maddalena in Rigoletto (Verdi), Mezzo Soprano in Verdi’s Requiem, Madame de Croissy in Dialogues des Carmélites (Poulenc), Mercedes in Carmen (Bizet), Ein Page Der Herodias in Salome (Strauss), Marthe in Faust (Gounod) and others. In her international career she had performed the roles of Eboli in Don Carlo (Verdi) in Rimini, Azucena in Il Trovatore (Verdi) in Ljubljana’s theater and in Japan Opera Festival, Marthe in Faust (Gounod) and Contessa di Coigny (Andrea Chenier) in a collaborative productions of the theaters of Modena, Piacenza, Reggio Emilia, Parma and Ravenna. She had also performed the role of Zita in Gianni Schicchi (Puccini) in Modena and Fenena in Nabucco (Verdi) in the Sofia National Opera and in Sassari in Sardinia. Ms. Bloch had performed as a soloist with leading conductors such as Daniel Oren, Dan Ettinger, Asher Fisch, Daniele Callegari, Frederic Chaslin, Omer Meir Wellber, Nir Kabaretti and others. Ms. Bloch had participated in several courses in Teatro Comunale Pavarotti-Freni Modena, led by Ms. Mirella Freni. Ms. Bloch was a member of the Israeli Opera’s Opera Studio where her repertoire included in both orchestral and piano accompanied performances: Charlotte in Werther (Massenet), The Princess in Sour Angelica (Puccini), Madame Flora (Baba) in The Medium (Menotti), the Sorceress in Dido and Aeneas (Purcell), the Witch in Hansel und Gretel (Humperdinck), the Third Lady in Die Zauberflote (Mozart), Marcellina in Le nozze di Figaro (Mozart), Tisbe in La Cenerentola (Rossini), and Giannetta in L’elisir d’amore (Donizetti). Ms. Bloch is a recipient of the AICF, the Fay Harbour, the Baser, the Eli Leon, the Buchman-Mehta School of Music and the International Vocal Arts Institute scholarships.
