Rona Shrira is an Israeli contralto and former member of the Meitar Opera Studio (2019-2021). Rona graduated from the vocal and musicology departments of the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music at the class of Prof. Tamar Rachum-Roth with whom she studies nowadays.
Rona’s extensive operatic repertoire includes roles such as Suzuki (Madame Butterfly, Puccini), Filippyevna (Yevgeni Onegin, Tchaikovsky), Baba (The Medium, Menotti), La zia principessa (Suor Angelica, Puccini), Mother Jeanne (Dialogues des Carmélites, Poulenc, The old gypsy (Aleko, Rachmaninoff), and Die Hexe (Hänsel und Gretel, Humperdinck), among others.
As a soloist, Rona performed in “Alto Rhapsody” (Brahms), “Elias” (Mendelssohn ), “Les nuits d’été” (Berlioz), “Petite messe solennelle” (Rossini), “Rückert-Lieder” (Mahler), “Kindertotenlieder” (Mahler), Gloria (Vivaldi), “Dixit Dominus” (Handel), “Stabat Matar” (Pergolesi) and more. Rona also performed in the Common Ground Voices project (initiated by the Eric Ericson International Choral Center) devoted to the creation of an international choir consisting of groups from various countries and religions.
Rona has also gained recognition in international concerts, competitions, and workshops. She was named the winner of the Aviv Competitions (America-Israeli Cultural Foundation, 2023) and was a finalist at Vincero International Competition (Italy, 2022). She participated in prestigious workshops including the IYDV program by Dolora Zajick (USA, 2022), “Sigriswill- Internationale OpernWerkstatt” (Switzerland, 2016, 2023), and the Internationale Opernwerkstatt Waiblingen (Germany, 2019), among others.
Rona has been awarded fellowships and scholarships by the America-Israel Cultural Foundation (2023), Ronen Foundation (since 2021), Grabov Foundation (2024), Baser scholarship (2022), Leon Nacht Scholarship (2020), Eli Leon Foundation (2019) as well as other awards and scholarships.
