Klara Nossevitsky immigrated to Israel in 1990 from Kenerova in Siberia. Her family was the second family to get exit visas in 1989. While the family was getting ready to immigrate, the Israel Philharmonic made its first visit to the USSR. Klara and her violinist husband flew four hours to Moscow to hear the orchestra. When she heard the orchestra in rehearsal with Zubin Mehta, she knew immediately that more than anything else, she wanted to be part of this ensemble. As there was no viola opening at the time, she spent her first year in Tel Aviv playing in six orchestras simultaneously: Holon Orchestra, Ramat Gan Chamber Orchestra, Tel Aviv Symphony, Symphonette Raanana, Givatyim Women’s Orchestra and the WIZO Orchestra. Soon enough she joined the Israel Chamber Orchestra and in 1997 became a member of the Israel Philharmonic.
Klara Nossevitsky is also the Israel Philharmonic’s mandolin soloist and was featured in performances of Mahler’s Seventh Symphony on the 2007 European Festival Tour.
