Tamar Narkis-Meltzer started playing the oboe at the age of 15. She is a graduate of the Rubin Academy of Music at Tel Aviv University, where she studied with Eliyahu Turner who was, for many years, the principal oboist of the Israel Philharmonic. As part of her studies at the academy, she won first prizes in concerto and chamber music competitions. In the years 1985-92 she stayed in the USA, where she continued her studies with well-known oboists, including Ray Steele, John Delancey, Sarah Lambert-Bloom and Richard Kilmer. During this time she also played in various ensembles and orchestras, including the Civic Orchestra in Chicago, the Sarasota Festival Orchestra and the Miami Ballet Orchestra, where she served as principal oboist in the 1990-91 season. After returning to Israel in 1992, she joined the ranks of the Israel Philharmonic. Tamar Narkis-Meltzer regularly performs throughout the country in chamber concerts with diverse ensembles.
