Born in Israel in 1979, Asaf Maoz is a graduate of the Thelma Yellin School of the Arts, the Rubin Academy of Music in Tel Aviv and the Rostock Hochschule für Musik, Germany. His teachers include Ahuva Dreiblatt, Simon Yerushevich, Ora Shiran and Axel Wilczok.
After his military service as an Outstanding Musician, he has participated in many festivals, among them Sounds in the Desert in Sde Boker, Apple Hill – Playing for Peace in Israel and Jordan, Verbier in Switzerland (2002-14) and the Jerusalem International Chamber Music Festival (2008-13). In 2000-12 he was Principal of the Second Violins of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra under Maestro Daniel Barenboim (2000-12).
Asaf Maoz was a winner of several chamber music competitions at the Tel Aviv Academy of Music and a recipient of scholarships from the America-Israel Cultural Foundation, Yehudi Menuhin’s Live Music Now and the Barenboim-Said Foundation.
In 2006-07 he served as Principal of the Second Violins of the German Bielefelder Philharmoniker. During 2004-13 he resided in Berlin, where he was a member of the Komische Oper Berlin (Asisstant Concertmaster), the Deutsches Kammerorchester Berlin (Concertmaster and Principal of the Second Violins), the Tel Aviv Soloists ensemble and the Verviers Festival Chamber Orchestra (Concertmaster and Principal of the Second Violins). He was also member of the Capital Dance Swing Orchestra.
Assaf is a member of the Israel Philharmonic since October 2013, he enjoys playing tennis and chess, listening to music and taking walks along the beach.
